Urban Sprouts
By cultivating school gardens in San Francisco’s under-served neighborhoods, Urban Sprouts partners with youth and their families to build eco-literacy, equity, wellness, and community. Urban Sprouts has field-tested and evaluated the Garden-based Education Model developed by Dr. Michelle Ratcliffe. Results from Urban Sprouts’ program evaluations show real change in participating youths’ attitudes towards the environment, consumption of fruits and vegetables, and motivation to make change in their eating habits at school and at home. poker idn
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity partners with working families and the community to build affordable ownership homes in San Francisco, Marin, and the Peninsula. Habitat provides a hand-up for families in desperate need of improved living conditions. Homeowners invest 500 hours of “sweat equity” to help build their own homes as well as additional time for homeowner workshops. Baykids mission is to empower children facing medical challenges to express themselves through the art of filmmaking. They see their success in a child’s joyful dance, the confidence of a budding director, and the proud smile of an award-winning young filmmaker. Over 5,000 children and families have participated in their innovative programs. For children dealing with serious medical conditions, creative expression through filmmaking is therapeutic and life-affirming. As children immerse themselves in the exciting and challenging process of making a film, they are able to shift their focus from pediatric patient to budding filmmaker. And as they learn new skills, collaborate with others, and tell their story, their self-esteem is strengthened.
